On the evening of Friday, June 24, 1892, W. Wood Porter was riding his bicycle on Main Street in Florence when he was shot and killed by a drunken and enraged Frank Kibbey. Kibbey was the brother of a territorial Supreme Court Justice, which helped transform a seemingly straightforward case into a sensational trial. Dr. Hietter, who is currently a professor of history at Mesa Community College, will discuss the case and the way the behavior of those involved reflected Victorian-era attitudes about gender roles and behavior
